Let me be honest with you from the jump.
I didn't start writing because I had something profound to say. I started because I saw what Dickie Bush and Nicolas Cole built with words and thought — I want that.
That's it. Pure imitation. Pure hunger.
Nobody tells you that's okay. Every writing guru will tell you to "find your voice" and "write authentically" like those things come before the work. They don't. You find your voice by borrowing everyone else's first. You become authentic by being a convincing fraud long enough to discover what's actually true underneath.
Imitation is how you begin. Proficient is what you become.
I was broke, self-taught, operating from a smartphone in Nigeria with no blueprint and no backup plan. Two years ago I didn't have a newsletter, a brand, a product, or a plan. I had a browser and an internet connection and an unhealthy obsession with people who were building things with nothing but their minds.
That's who this newsletter is for.
Not the person who has it figured out. The person who is sitting exactly where I was — watching someone else's life and thinking why not me?
The answer, by the way, is: no reason. There is genuinely no reason.
